Pafos Zoo began as a personal project inspired by Mr. Christos Christoforou’s deep love for birds and wildlife. Initially intended as a private sanctuary to house his extensive bird collection, Mr. Christoforou soon realised that his remarkable collection—and the unique experience it offered—should be shared with the public. With a vision to create something truly special for Cyprus, he opened the zoo not only to showcase his collection but also to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and education within the local community.
After three years of dedicated development, Pafos Zoo opened its doors to the public in September 2003. It quickly became Cyprus’s first licensed zoo and remains the largest and most established on the island.
Nestled in over 100,000 square meters of lush, unspoiled natural landscape, the zoo is now one of the leading attractions in Cyprus. It is home to an impressive variety of animals and birds from around the globe, offering visitors an unforgettable journey through the animal kingdom. Among its standout features is one of the largest collections of parrots and venomous snakes in Europe.
Just a short drive from Paphos, the zoo provides a unique opportunity to connect with wildlife. Visitors can encounter an incredible range of species, including giraffes, monkeys, meerkats, crocodiles, kangaroos, albino wallabies, mouflons, white lions, tigers, and many more.
And don't miss the zoo's beloved performers: the vibrant macaws and clever owls, who entertain guests daily in the on-site amphitheatre with their impressive and amusing shows.
A visit to Pafos Zoo is more than just a day out—it’s an immersive experience surrounded by the natural beauty of gardens, lakes, and ponds, filled with the sights and sounds of the animal world.
At its core, Pafos Zoo is committed to the care and wellbeing of all its animals. It strives to create meaningful experiences that not only entertain but also educate and inspire visitors to protect and conserve wildlife for generations to come.
